Was it a Mouse or a Rat?
If you are experiencing small shredded bits of cardboard and paper, scratching sounds coming from floors, walls and ceilings , and have seen sesame sized dark droppings this may well be all the signs of a mouse infestation.
Usually found in garages, garden sheds and outbuildings aswell as houses, as many as 78% of all homes throughout Dorset will have experienced a mouse related problem at some point. With an average weight of around 18 grams (House Mouse) and 25grams Wood Mouse, care needs to be taken in correct identification as they can sometimes be mistaken for a Bank Vole or Rat.

Facts about the pest
There are four common mouse found throughout the South Coast
- The Western European House Mouse – Mus Musculus,
- The Wood Mouse or Long Tailed Field Mouse – Apodemus sylvaticus,
- The Yellow Necked Field Mouse – Apodemus flavicollis
- The Harvest Mouse – Micromys minutus..
Mice along with rats pose a serious risk to health. Typhus, Salmonella, Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome can all be extremely hazardous to health both in the home and workplace. Mice throughout the UK have an unfavourable reputation for causing fires and electrical damage as a result of chewing cables.
Being commensal (living from mans table) mice like rats are predominantly nocturnal (active at night). Touch, smell and hearing are favoured over eyesight enabling a quick response from predation.
Lifecycle – Sexually mature females at 5-6 weeks have a pregnancy of 21 days falling pregnant again immediately after giving birth. The weaning process coincides with the 21 day pregnancy where a litter size of 5 to 8 young will be born.
Understanding the Characteristics, Biology and Lifecycle is what allows TP Pest Control Technicians to deliver a Professional Service. All TP Pest Control Technicians hold the RSPH (Royal Society for Public Health) Level 2 Certificate and have undergone specialist training with the BPCA (British Pest Control Association). We are also members of the NPTA (National Pest Technicians Association).
TP Pest Control Services
Why choose us?
TP Pest Services are experts in removing mice and the proofing of buildings. Unlike many pest companies we do not use poison rodenticides within households as this can cause more serious issues with dead mice causing a nasty smell within cavities and under flooring, they then become an attractant for flies and rats which feed on the carcass.
We also offer CCTV inspections and use industry leading external poison bait boxes which utilise current technology making them as safe as possible.
Combined with ultra violet tracking dust and many years of experience we also have humane live capture boxes offering a guaranteed solution.
